At BeniMrirtRugs, we are proud to create each Beni Mrirt rug in-house, from start to finish, with no middlemen involved. Our process is carried out in our own weaving atelier in the city of M’rirt and washing atelier in Khenifra. Every step is a testament to the skill, tradition, and dedication of our artisans.
These rugs are handcrafted using authentic Beni Mrirt techniques, passed down through generations. The unique double-tight knot weaving method, mastered exclusively by M’rirt weavers, is the hallmark of our rugs. This technique ensures exceptional durability, precision, and artistry, making each piece a true masterpiece.
1. Sourcing the Finest Wool
We use only premium-quality wool, sourced directly from the Middle Atlas Mountains. This wool is hand-selected for its softness, strength, and natural integrity. It is then spun entirely by hand by skilled Amazigh women, preserving its authentic character and ensuring it meets the highest standards.
2. Hand-Spinning the Wool
Our artisans spin the wool using traditional hand spindles, a meticulous process that transforms raw fibers into strong and durable yarns. This attention to detail ensures the yarn retains its natural softness and integrity, laying the foundation for a luxurious rug.
3. Natural Dyeing Process
To achieve vibrant, lasting colors, we dye the yarn by hand using natural plant, spice, and herb blends. Each batch is carefully monitored to ensure perfection, and the yarns are sun-dried to lock in their brilliance while maintaining environmental sustainability.
4.Weaving the Rug
Each rug is woven on vertical looms using the exclusive double-tight knot technique that is unique to the M’rirt region. This weaving style, passed from mother to daughter, is unmatched in its precision and strength. The patterns and symbols reflect the rich Amazigh culture, creating a piece of art steeped in tradition and meaning.
5. Signature Washing Process
What truly sets our rugs apart is our exclusive washing technique, developed in-house. Using bio-friendly products and fresh water, our washing method enhances the wool’s softness, restores its natural luster, and ensures a clean and luxurious finish. Walking on our rugs feels like stepping onto a cloud.
6. Drying & Finishing Touches
After washing, the rugs are sun-dried in the Moroccan climate, which adds a natural freshness. We apply finishing touches, including shearing and clipping, to ensure each rug is flawless and ready to adorn your space.
